Newbies Help Newsletter  -   Dated 15 January 2008  ♦  Issue # 803
The theme of today's newsletter is deciding about what you are going to sell this year and how.

Welcome to all the new members who joined our group during this last week.
I have been working hard on the first product that I am going to sell on the Internet this year, and I thought whether you have decided which way to develop your business in the coming year. It is not easy to decide on the way forward, but I have tried to give some guidance in the article today.

A short break for this week's sponsor.

This week's Article
Title - What is your business model for 2008

As you are no doubt aware, the trick to being successful in your Internet business is to find the niche market that is looking for that specific item of information that is not available readily on the Internet. The key word is Information.

While I have been scouring the markets for what could be a profitable niche for 2008 it struck me that if I find that elusive niche, and then decide on the information product that is needed for it, I have to then decide on the best method of selling that product.

First of all, is this a product that will need to be created, or did you find a product available on the Internet to resell. As you are no doubt aware there are a host of products and services out there, but at some point in time you will need to decide on a basic business model that you will utilize to produce the product. The three models briefly detailed below are probably the most popular.

  1. Create a product and sell it
Not everyone will jump at this one because it requires some creative juices to be used in the generation of the product. However this is by far the most profitable in terms of Return on Investment (ROI).
The key to creating your own information product is the ability to research the subject, and then compile your research notes into the product. Not only do you get the product created, but while researching and creating it you gain a wealth of knowledge on the subject matter included in the product.
Of course, if you have finances available you could have the information product created for you by someone else.

  2. Sell someone else’s product as an affiliate
This is probably the most popular business model for Newcomers to follow. It simply entails selling someone else’s product for which you will receive a commission. Some are one-off payments, but others can be recurring.
There is most probably one affiliate program that covers every niche that is on the Internet. The problem is finding the niche first, then the product, after which you can hunt for a good affiliate program to help you.
The only drawback is that you will only receive a percentage commission – mostly set at 50%, so your profit margins will be considerably less than in model No 1.
  3. Buying products for resale
This model requires you to purchase products from a wholesaler and then sell them at a higher price. This depends entirely on getting good wholesalers with products that will serve your niche. The one draw back here is that the profit margins tend to be low, and this model usually requires a considerable amount of effort to keep it going successfully.
A simple adaption of this model is to buy from wholesalers then auction the product on Ebay for a higher price. This is also a lot of work, but the benefits in a really tight niche can be great. The key in this model is to find the right niche along with the right wholesalers.

The key to success is totally governed by your selection of the proper niche market followed by the product that is in demand in that niche. If you do not follow this system and try to match an existing product to a niche market, disaster is looming just around the corner.

Today’s tips on finding those elusive niches.

  1. http://pulse.ebay.com/ lists most any category of product.

  2. http://www.google.com/press/zeitgeist.html shows weekly, monthly, and annual trends based on all done at Google's search engine. Zeitgeist by Country is also available on a monthly basis.

  3. https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal is a free tool that gives you reports on keywords and keyword phrases that you enter into the search box. Statistics show how many users search for you keyword on Google.

  4. http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com/ shows you the daily searches being done on any keyword or keyword phrase.
