The theme of today's newsletter is Time Management

Hi [[firstname]],

Welcome to all the new members who joined our group during this last week.
The past week has been a busy one. The saga of the products on my hard drive still continues and I have provided some ideas on how to control the downloads that you make to your hard drive. The only conclusion that I can make is that you have to be consistent in following your procedure on how to do it. (I have given you the procedure that I use.) Don't let it slip otherwise you will end up not knowing what you have on your hard drive, and wasting good money, if you purchased them with some plan in mind as to what to do with them to earn you some income. Today is Part two of the series.

A short break for this weeks first sponsor. I have bought this and am currently working with it to generate ads. When I have information, I will give you a first hand look at what it is doing for me, and what it can do for you.

I have made some progress in working with the Widget Ads script and you can see the basic format lower down on this page.

This week's Article
Title - Time and space management on your PC – Part 2 – Controlling your downloads

When I started with Internet Marketing just over two years ago I used to download everything to the My Documents directory on my PC as that was the default location when using the “Save As” dialog box. I soon found that I was not consistent in downloading to this directory for various reasons and ended up having to search the drive for some of the downloaded files that I new existed, but I could not find.

To resolve the lost downloads issue I set up a directory named “My downloads” on the Desktop and then tried to set up my Web Browser to place everything that I downloaded from the Internet into this folder. It was not that simple because with Internet Explorer I could not change the default download location, but could select “My downloads” directory from the “Save As” dialog box and then download the file to it.
I subsequently found that Mozilla Firefox allows you to select any directory for all downloads. So I changed my default web browser to Firefox and set all downloads to go to the “My downloads” file.

Yes, all my downloads now went to this directory, but I soon found that it was a little messy trying to remember what belonged to what, especially when you downloaded four or five products from a special offer, as well as the bonuses that normally came with them, but at least I now knew where they were. As you are no doubt aware, some of the download files are not necessarily named to help know what they contain, which again makes for more work in trying to find what you are looking for. I eventually decided to play it safe and although it meant a little more time I decided on the following procedure to download anything to my hard drive.

Below is the standard “Save As” dialog box in the Windows system and I removed the Firefox default download directory and ticked the box to be asked where to download each time. So, I get this screen when I right click on the download link and save as:

Save As dialog box

From this screen:
  1. I initially change the directory from My Documents to My Downloads.
  2. I then create a new folder within the My Downloads folder and name it with the Product name or the Name of the Vendor/Author.
  3. I then open the folder and save the downloads to that folder.
  4. When all the downloads are completed, I then extract the zipped file contents within that folder.
  5. I then check that everything is accessible – i.e. I can read the book or the execute file works.
  6. I then classify the product into their different types, PLR, RR, Personal Use, and so on, but that will be the subject of the next article in this series.
There is no simple way to overcome the many difficulties that can arise other than to set up a routine once a day to check all the downloads that you have made. It should become a part of the daily routine and follow on from the daily email check.

I hope that this week's issue was of interest to you, and maybe you found something that would be helpful in your own business. If so, I would appreciate any feedback you may have so that I can align future content to better suit your needs. Send them to newsletter@newbieshelp.com

Sincerely,
