1. This week's article

What is affiliate Marketing?
The basic principle behind affiliate marketing is simply selling or promoting someone else's product or service in return for a commission. This is probably the most popular business model that is adopted by those new to Internet marketing as it is considered to be the lowest cost business model when starting on the Internet.

This business model exists in many forms, and are commonly called Affiliate Programs. You join the Affiliate Program that the Merchant is operating that is selling the particular product you are interested in promoting. The most common types of programs are as follows:

  1. Pay per click - you are paid for each visitor you send to the merchant's website.
  2. Pay per lead - you are paid for each lead delivered to the merchant's website.
  3. Pay per sale - you are paid for each sale completed at the merchant's website.

Each one of the above returns a certain payment for delivering the click, lead, or sale. By far the largest number of businesses online work on the Pay per Sale system.

Although this business model is considered to be the simplest way to start your Internet Business, it does not necessarily mean there is less effort required to become profitable. All it really reflects is that since this is not your own product, you will not have any costs related to the development, presentation, sales copy, delivery, merchant services, and the like, for the product. The main cost that you will incur will be the promotion of the product.

When starting your internet business through affiliate marketing there are five steps to follow to ensure success:

  1. You must first find a niche market that interests you if possible, and is of sufficient size to sustain growth.
  2. You must find what the market is searching for in terms of solutions to problems, or a product or service that is in short supply or unavailable.
  3. You must find a product or products that will solve the problem or fill the demand for the product or service.
  4. You must promote the product or service.
  5. Although this is not essential, it will increase your methods of promotion to have your own website as the base to bring visitors to before redirecting them to the merchant's sales page.

The need for your own website is something that needs careful attention as it will be the way to develop and grow your own targeted list to which you can promote other affiliate products and grow your business.

The one objective that should remain in the forefront of all your activities when promoting a product is to be truthful at all times - no, not even white lies are acceptable. It doesn't matter which business model you utilize, whether it is Affiliate Marketing, or any other, success will come to those who create a trusting relationship with their customers and partners. Taking the shady route will not end up in riches but with a very bad reputation and no future.

2. A site with products to sell.

If you are looking for physical products or services to sell then take a look at SFI. Here is a system that you can join for free as an affiliate. It has an extensive range of products to promote in return for a commission. The range covers nutritional products, cleaning products, coffee, magazines, website builder, mobile phones, VOIP, and many others. It is well worth the visit to see what is available.
